Hunter Curtis as Judas
1. Introduce yourself! Who are you? Where are you from originally, and where do you live now? I’m Hunter Curtis, born and raised in Lenoir. Still living here
2. What do you do outside of theatre? Typically more theatre, and video games and stage combat and reading…the list goes on.
3. When did you get involved in theatre? What drew you to get involved? I got involved with theatre a good while ago when I was in Elementary School and they were doing Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory which had to have been one of my favorite movies and still is. Thats what drew me in initially.
4.Do you have a favorite show or role you have played? My favorite role to date has to be Donkey in Shrek the Musical, being able to be a loose cannon on stage is always fun. I’ve also done The Hunchback of Notre Dame, as Captain Phoebus, Godspell as Jesus, Macbeth as Banquo, and also recently just started directing with Cyrano de Bergerac being my start and this past year directing Its a Wonderful Life both with OCP.
5.What character are you in this show? What song do you sing? I am the infamous Judas Iscariot with a hint of John the Baptist. I sing a few things.
6. What do you like about your character? I like my character because at times it’s like Judas is the most human one there. He’s the real like “reality” check a lot of times but is still learning as a disciple. He is also the crowd rouser and pokes the bear, he’s a piece of work.
7. Do you have a favorite song in the show? (Doesn’t have to be your own, but can be!) If so, why is it your favorite? My favorite song is tied for All for the Best and On the Willows. To be honest most of the songs in the show are fantastic but these two are so contrasting for me it just is an example of the range.
8. Why this particular show? What makes it special for you? Why did you want to do it? My love for Godspell started last year when I did it in Marion and I was HOOKED. The show is so much more than what it seems. A show about love and acceptance. It’s genuinely one of Schwartz’s best pieces of theatre. I wanted to do it because it’s a show I can never get tired of.
9. Why should audiences come see this show? It has a message and story for everyone whether you’re struggling or thriving it’s got something for you. It’s one of the most bizarre and diverse stories out there.
10. Give us your favorite line: “You Hypocrites!” I say it a few times and it’s definitely one of the more harsh aspects of the show.

Jason Bumgarner

I moved to Granite Falls with my family in the late 90's. I currently live in Hudson, NC. Since I am a Bumgarner, chances are yes we are related somehow.
2. What do you do outside of theatre? I work for the Western North Carolina Department of Veteran's Affairs. I assist Veterans with their concerns at the VA Medical Center. I am also a Veteran. I served in the United States Air Force. I enjoy finding the next adventure that is waiting to be experienced whether it be hiking in the woods and capturing nature in all its majesty through the lens of a camera or skydiving over Detroit. I am also content with finding the lost treasure at a thrift store or finding a hidden view while canoeing down the Rio Grande River in Big Bend National Park.
3. When did you get involved in theatre? What drew you to get involved? I have always enjoyed performing on stage and entertaining people. I stood outside on the front porch of my childhood home singing to the cars as they passed by with a small guitar. I started performing in plays during elementary school. I continued to be involved in the theatre while serving in the military. I performed in several productions while stationed in New Mexico and South Carolina. I was drawn to the theatre as a place of refuge.
4. Do you have a favorite show or role you have played? Play or musical. Give us a brief resume of some favorites if you have. My favorite show is Phantom of the Opera. It was the first show I ever saw. Some favorite roles I have played are Doody from "Grease" and Mr. Snail from "A Year with Frog and Toad”, "A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder," Will Parker in "Oklahoma," and Radio Announcer (Comedian) in "Always, Patsy Cline."

8. Why this particular show? What makes it special for you? Why did you want to do it?
I completely misjudged this show. I heard of the show only once before when it came to Charlotte. The show is really about rebuilding our friendships, our family ties, and our communities in the best way we know how based on the examples provided to us from the Bible or other Sacred Texts. It is a show that I have enjoyed being a part of and being able to spread a message of hope is always worth my time and effort!
9. Why should audiences come see this show? "Godspell" lends itself to interruption by each individual audience member. Each audience member will leave with a feeling that we all have a past whether it is for good or for bad; what is important is that we can overcome those trials. We learn from those lessons in our own lives which shape us or mold us, then apply those building blocks of knowledge gained as the foundation of who we truly are; ensuring we are the best versions of ourselves. We are all leaders no matter our status in life because all a leader does is influence, nothing more and nothing less. "Godspell" provides small glimpses of how to reflect on who you want to be and how you can influence others to achieve something great.
10. Give us your favorite line: "No fruit, Callie!"

8. Why this particular show? What makes it special for you? Why did you want to do it?
I grew up listening to the music, and I’ve already performed in Godspell once!
9. Why should audiences come see this show? Audiences should come see this show because each Godspell you see is unique. If you’ve seen Godspell before you’ll see a new show with the same stories, and if you’ve never seen Godspell its a telling of different parables.

Clam Sepulveda
1. Introduce yourself! Who are you? Where are you from originally, and where do you live now? I am Clam, and I hate talking about myself - lol. I am originally from Worcester, MA and currently live in Newton, NC. I am an entertainer when I can be - working on stage, movies, haunts, theme parks and everything in between. I love Sci-Fi, I am a lover, not a fighter, and I can cook - need I say more?
2. What do you do outside of theatre? I do marketing for Golden Ticket Cinemas as well as being a professional haunt monster for Lake Hickory Haunts.
3. When did you get involved in theatre? What drew you to get involved?
I did my first show way back when everyone used fax machines. It seemed like fun, and the local theater was doing "The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe" - one of my favorite stories.
4. Do you have a favorite show or role you have played? Play or musical. Give us a brief resume of some favorites if you have. I have to say that I am so in love with the Noah in "Children of Eden!'" I also love The Ghost of Christmas Present from "A Christmas Carol", Horton in "Seussical" and of course, "Godspell."
5. What character are you in this show? What song do you sing? Well, seeing that every character in the show, aside of the 2 leads, are actual people - I am Clam! I sing All Good Gifts, a song I can never get enough of.
6. What do you like about your character? The innocence - and being the odd one out. I have always been different and understand the need to be accepted, to feel love, to be a part of something bigger than me - but never having the courage to pursue it. Oftentimes, if you don't find a place to fit in, you create your own perfect world in your own mind, a utopia. Even though coming into the real world can be scary, Jesus becomes a light to navigate it. They form a bond that encompasses a spectrum of emotions. This is my character.
7. Do you have a favorite song in the show? (Doesn’t have to be your own, but can be!) If so, why is it your favorite? I am impartial to "All Good Gifts" because of the wonder and magic of it. It paints a beautiful world with amazing things in it help together by a being of perfect love. This is a world I cherish in my own mind.
8. Why this particular show? What makes it special for you? Why did you want to do it?
I guess, seeing that this is my fourth time doing it - I have to say I just love the music and the story (the whole package). Sadly my age is catching up to me, and the fact it is a physical show, it may be my last. If I fall down, don't laugh too hard.
9. Why should audiences come see this show?
Godspell is just a fun show filled with emotion. The director's vision is something to see and should not be missed.

Callie Cope
1. Introduce yourself! Who are you? Where are you from originally, and where do you live now? Hi, my name is Callie Cope! I’m from Catawba and currently live in Catawba.
2. What do you do outside of theatre? Outside of theatre, I do a lot of sewing. I have my own business, Material Girl Alterations & Creations, doing alterations and designing.
3. When did you get involved in theatre? What drew you to get involved?
I got involved in theatre my sophomore year of high school. I auditioned on a whim after doing a play at my church and I was immediately hooked. I love that theatre is such an open and accepting place and it helped me become more comfortable with myself!
4.Do you have a favorite show or role you have played? Play or musical. Give us a brief resume of some favorites if you have. My favorite play I’ve done is Our Town by Thornton Wilder. I played Emily Webb. I actually have done the show with two different theatres and played Emily both times so the show is super special to me. My favorite musical I’ve done is Chicago where I played Roxie Hart. That was my first big role in a musical and she was so fun to portray!
5. What character are you in this show? What song do you sing?
I’m playing me! This show is kind of different because most of us are just playing ourselves or a least some version of ourself. I sing the song “By My Side.”
6. What do you like about your character?
It’s really interesting to play yourself onstage. Theatre is so big and exaggerated so I’ve really had to explore how to portray sort of a caricature of myself. It’s been a really fun and challenging thing to do!
7. Do you have a favorite song in the show? (Doesn’t have to be your own, but can be!) If so, why is it your favorite? I have a few favorites! I do love my song, “By My Side.” It’s such a pretty song and it comes at such a powerful point in the show. I think that’s a big turning point for my character finally fully committing to Jesus. I also love the song “On The Willows.” Judas sings this one just before his betrayal. The song is so soft and feels like a lullaby. It’s such a stark contrast to what is about to come and it’s the point in the show I always start to tear up!
8. Why this particular show? What makes it special for you? Why did you want to do it?
Godspell was the first musical I was involved in college. I wasn’t in the cast but I was the Assistant Stage Manager and the Assistant Choreographer. It was a really fun show to be a part of and now I feel like I’ve come full circle by actually getting to be onstage for it.
9. Why should audiences come see this show?
Audiences should come see the show because it’s so fun and anyone can enjoy it! I can guarantee you’ve never seen anything like it!
10. Give us your favorite line: My favorite line from the show is: “No fruit, Callie!”
You’ll have to come see the show to get the context of the line!

Dalton Isaac - Director
- Why did you want to be a part of this production? Because of the show itself and the love I have for FPA! I knew it was going to be a challenge, but that’s something I’m always down for! I love Stephen Schwartz, so I jumped at the opportunity!
- Any favorite moments from rehearsal so far? This rehearsal process has been SO MUCH FUN! My production team and I have assembled a stellar cast and crew to bring ‘Godspell’ to life, and it has been an incredible experience! Collaborating with artists is always special. The whole experience has been my favorite moment!
- What is your favorite thing that your design/direction/input has added to this show? From the moment I was asked to direct this show, I knew that I wanted to turn this production ‘on it’s head.’ I didn’t like the traditional route that Godpsell takes (which was made even more popular by the film released in the 1970s’.) Traditionally, it’s done in a city lot with bright colors, chain link fences, hippies, and characters from various walks of life that come together to tell the parables. There were parts of this iteration that I liked, but parts of it didn’t jive well with my vision of the show. Every Godspell production is different, as the creators of the show give artistic liberty to each director to curate their show as it fits to their town, their theatre, their cast, their audiences. That has been challenging, but I like the theme we went with!! This play has only ten characters but the theme, intent, and direction of the piece can become overwhelming if not handled with care. Religion is a soft spot for many people, so I tried to keep that and the concept in mind!
5. How did changing the traditional Godspell settings to a different concept affect your design/direction? I had to change a lot of ways that some of the parables are told. Keeping our concept a secret, I will give a hint.. I had to write a rap for one of the parables!! In changing the concept, it also altered how the set would look, and how certain things would play out. Everything the actors use are always on stage with them, so figuring out the logistics of making that work was a bit challenging! I give lots of praise to my sidekick stage manager, Laura, who helped me navigate some of those challenges!
6. Tell us about your process. How do you bring your design/direction to life on stage? I write down everything. Every idea. Every note. I’ve got stuff everywhere. Ask Laura- I’ve got ideas coming out of my ears and she is the sounding board. My theatre bookbag weighs a ton when I’m directing a show. I’ve got a Google Drive folder that I keep ideas in, and a Pinterest board when I post things I like. I compile different ideas months in advance to auditions, and try to narrow down what I vision in my head so I can tell people what to expect. After that, its hours of exhausting (but rewarding) work in rehearsing, designing, meeting and getting the show ready!
7. Godspell, for some, can be deep. How is your cast handling telling these stories? Ya know, Godspell is deep. And for some, I’m sure it is difficult to get through emotionally. It is for me. My heart pulls every single time. But the humor and humanity that shines throughout the script and score really help ease the tension that we all know culminates at “the end.” The handle the material with grace, and with carefulness. They know what they are telling.. these parables and stories. We had open discussion before we even started rehearsing on how we wanted this show to be portrayed to audiences. Less on shoving religion in audiences faces, and more on love, community and coming together. I decided early on to let Jesus be the root of the tree. We are merely the followers, the branches, and the extensions of his teachings.
8. Do you have a favorite song in the show? Yikes! Tough decision. Probably Beautiful City or On the Willows if you’re forcing me to decide.
9. Why should audiences come to Lenoir to see Godspell at FPA? To be completely honest, this show is.. hauntingly beautiful. It is moving.. It is gracious, it is heartfelt, It is.. Life changing. Religion aside.. It’s much more than that. It’s more about community and the close relationships between different people on their own paths.
Laura Spencer Hall
1. What brings you to FPA and this production of Godspell? Being able to be part of Godspell which was my first ever production I was involved with means so much to me. I love being able to work with my best friend at FPA, where everyone treats you with so much kindness and respect.
